Chimera is a hybrid sculpture created by Zbeul Studio, the duo of Thomas Noui and Victor Robin. Made from terracotta fragments unearthed during archaeological excavations in southern France — some dating back to the late 17th century — the work merges scientific precision with creative freedom.
The shards, assembled following rigorous archaeological restoration protocols, are partially silver-leafed in the spirit of Kintsugi, highlighting the beauty of fracture and repair. From the tension between these fragments emerges a singular form, both organic and symbolic, exploring the transformation of matter and the continuity between past and present.
This unique piece is emblematic of Zbeul Studio’s practice, which is rooted in cultural, historical, and technical research. In their work, history and material experimentation intertwine to give rise to unprecedented forms.
