Biography

Jimmy Delatour is a French designer whose practice, at the crossroads of art and design, is rooted in a demanding conceptual approach. His formal language is expressed both in the design of furniture and in the creation of sculptural objects, experimental pieces, and applied design projects. Combining theoretical reflection with artisanal mastery, his work gives rise to powerful forms that question function, memory, and imagination.

A graduate of ESAG Penninghen in 2008, he founded his studio Delatour Design Paris in 2015, initially focused on art direction and brand design for institutions such as Orange, Peugeot, Hédiard, the Musée Rodin, and the Opéra de Paris. From 2017 onwards, he devoted himself to the creation of art pieces and limited-edition furniture.

A mirror of his passion for architecture throughout the ages—particularly modernism and brutalism—his work is distinguished by a strong sculptural presence, powerful volumes, and simple geometries that play with notions of weight, balance, and materiality. Conceiving the object as a point of tension between form and meaning, Jimmy Delatour explores its physical, symbolic, and emotional dimensions. His approach establishes a fluid link between design and conceptual art. His practice seeks to endow the object with a sensitive narrative charge, where function engages with memory, geography, and imagination.

Among his emblematic pieces, his Brutalist Totemsin marble or onyx, evocative of ritual figures, conceal a closed cavity intended to hold a personal message. The Origins design collection, conceived during an artist residency in Australia, explores the contrast between the mineral aridity of the outback and the organic fluidity of the shoreline, in reference to the ancestral link with Aboriginal culture. Together with the Italian marble workshop Serafini, he created the Anti-collection, whose aesthetic invites us to reconsider rituals of sharing and the symbolism of everyday life.

In 2023, he began a collaboration with the Italian house Trussardi Casa, which enabled him to transpose his formal language into the realm of high-end industrial design. His research there reinterprets the codes of luxury and emphasizes the sensuality of materials through an assertive sculptural expressiveness.

In 2025, the exhibition  ‘Pompeii-x’ at Galerie BSL affirms Jimmy Delatour’s vision of the object as both sculpture and narrative. He offers a contemporary interpretation of the legacy of Pompeii, questioning the memory of forms and the notion of fictional archaeology. The presentation brings together a series of wall works entitled Artifacts and a collection offurniture pieces in Italian natural stone, often monumental, created in collaboration with Les Marbreries de la Seine.

Born in Paris in 1985, Jimmy Delatour holds a degree in graphic arts and a Master’s in Art Direction from ESAG Penninghen (Paris, 2008). He lives and works in Paris.
