Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance

Biography
Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a French designer working across a wide range of disciplines and materials to create a unified body of work with a narrative deeply rooted in nature.

Born in the south of France in 1974, he followed the footsteps of his father, with an academic training in sculpture from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art, followed by a degree in furniture design from the renowned Les Arts Décoratifs. He often compares his creative approach to ‘niwa’, the little garden found at the heart of a traditional Japanese house, like an organic pulse within a discipline dedicated above all to respond to the demands of the industry, the market or a client.

Noé would rather each project have its own unique scenario, may it be sustained by a use, a form, a material or an aesthetic; a scenario where the curve and the straight line, sensuality and rigour, interact in a confrontation conducive to creating meaning and able to awaken our senses. Anxious to revive the notion of the alive or living in his design of objects and spaces, he considers each project like an organic form which grows with its user. His sculptural work showcases a respect for the past, combined with a simplicity of line and an honest desire to create pieces that last.

Throughout his career, he collaborated with major brands such as Saint Louis, Hermès, Ligne Roset, Cinna, Ceccotti collezioni, Tai Ping and Bernhardt Design, among others. He designed global boutiques for Montblanc, Air France lounge areas, the interior of the Ciel de Paris and London Sketch restaurants, as well as private residences.

In the ‘Naturoscopie’ collection designed for Galerie BSL, Noé puts into perspective an idea of nature that is captured, felt and recreated. Hence his bookcase-room divider with organic, fluid yet architectural forms, whose intertwined elements interpret a celllular structure. In his kinetic pieces, the design object merges with an emotional imprint, that moment when sunlight sneaks through the foliage of a tree, when the image of a sunset imprints our memories. An experience of nature conveyed via LED technology and digital programming, where design asserts itself as a vector of impressions, images and emotions.
