Carol Egan

Carol Egan is a New York–based designer and interior architect internationally recognized for her sculptural approach to furniture and space. Her practice brings together advanced technology and traditional craftsmanship, drawing on artisanal heritage to express a contemporary sensibility.

Since 2010, she has developed a body of sculptural furniture characterized by fluid forms and slender silhouettes. Her design philosophy is rooted in the alliance of minimalism and curvature, where subtlety and precision reveal the expressive potential of materials. Her wall-mounted shelves, consoles, benches, coffee tables, mirrors, and seating pieces are first conceived using 3D modeling software, before being meticulously crafted and hand-finished through traditional woodworking techniques or lost-wax bronze casting.

The strength of her approach lies in her ability to transform traditionally dense and weighty materials, such as wood, bronze, and steel, into forms of remarkable fluidity. Through an exceptional mastery of curvature and torsion, her pieces appear almost suspended in motion, combining a powerful sculptural presence with a rare sense of lightness.

At the heart of her work lies a sustained dialogue between technological innovation and time honored craftsmanship. Digital tools enable her to explore curves, torsions, and continuous contours that seem to defy the inherent constraints of the materials, while artisanal processes lend each piece depth and precision. By exploring the relationships between volume and balance, Carol Egan renews our perception of furniture and establishes an immediately recognizable design language.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1974, Carol Egan graduated from University College Dublin and Parsons School of Design in New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally. In 2015, she received a special mention in the Best Contemporary Piece category at PAD London for her freestanding ‘Sculptural Twist’ console, as well as the stools and benches from the same collection.
