Carol Egan

Carol Egan is a New York-based designer and interior architect, internationally recognized for her sculptural approach to furniture and space. Her practice bridges craftsmanship and technology, celebrating artisanal heritage while reinterpreting it through the lens of contemporary innovation.

Since 2010, Egan has developed a line of sculptural furniture defined by timeless elegance and fluid form. Her creations — wall shelves, consoles, benches, coffee tables, mirrors, and chairs — are first conceived using 3D modeling software before being meticulously crafted and hand- finished through traditional woodworking or lost-wax bronze casting techniques.

Egan’s work is distinguished by her ability to merge cutting-edge technology with time-honored craftsmanship. Her pieces often feature seemingly impossible curves and torsions that transform heavy, rigid materials into dynamic, lightweight forms. Through a refined – and at times playful – balance of structure, curvature, and surface, she brings movement and vitality to solid matter. Her pure lines and slender silhouettes explore notions of reflection, doubling, and spatial rhythm.

Her design philosophy rests on the alliance of minimalism and curvature, where subtlety and precision reveal the expressive potential of material. “As a designer, I am interested in technology,” Egan notes. I am fascinated by the intersection of technology with craftwork. What excites me is using the technology to manipulate material into unexpected and unique forms.”

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1974, Carol Egan is a graduate of University College Dublin and Parsons School of Design in New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and in 2015 she received a special mention at PAD London for her ‘Sculptural Twist’ freestanding console, stools and benches in the Best Contemporary Piece category.
